If the 1776 date in New York City is correct for birthdate, he was possibly born near where his father was "stationed" at that time, in Dutch Harlem, as a Provincial Tailor for the Crown, while assigned to the 4th Battallion, New Jersey Volunteers. Conrad the younger was a most prolific man. To date, around 13 children. There is, as is always the case with the Handspikers, a possibility of a third Conrad, born 1798 and another son for Conrad Junior (Conrad III??). That might explain some children attributed to Conrad Jr and Jane, later on. The other theory is that the 1798 date is a misread of 1778, and that the source stating 70 years old should have read 90. Perhaps forever a point for debate? Even the 1798 theory, mixed with the Coonrad, son of John (stayed in New Jersey type fellow), is the Conrad listed. That's actually impossible, just based on the date of marriage to Elizabeth Smith of 1808!
Though Conrad and his father are easily identified in the listing below of Digby Deaths/Burials, the other three aren't so easily placed (as of Jun-2003):
HANDLESPIKER Conrad Mount Pleasant buried June 24 1809 Trinity Anglican (Conrad "Sr")
HANDSPIKER ? ( (Mrs.)) died 1870 age 90
HANDSPIKER Conrad died 1868 age 70 (Conrad "Jr")
HANDSPIKER Elizabeth died 1876 age 77
HANDSPIKER Margaret Ann died 1865 age 34
