Watson has been listed as the son of Charles Henry Handspiker and Margaret Thibodeau. Chances are actually better that he was the son of Alice Jeanette Handspiker and John Richard Peverill. That he was then adopted by Charles Henry, after he and Alice married in 1896. Watson was likely named after one of Alice's brothers, who died young. Actual death date from Index to Digby Courier. Surely, in his obituary, he is listed as having a sister "Mrs. Clifford O'Neil" (Minnie/Mimmie). His obit reads as follows:
27-Jul-1923 (Digby Courier):
A very sudden death took place in the tenement house formerly belonging to the Sproule estate on Tuesday morning, about 2 o'clock, when Watson Chipman Handspiker, a young man of about 29 years, passed away after an illness of but a few minutes. He had been at his usual work all the day before. During the larger part of his life had had been a victim of asthma which undoubtedly affected his heart. He leaves a widow and five small children, the eldest of whom is but six years of age and the youngest but two months. Besides his family he also leaves a mother and one sister, Mrs. Clifford O'Neil. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon with interment in the Methodist Cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. W. H. Watts.
Odd Note: Did find a Watson Chipman (b. 1805) marrying a Caroline Morse (b. 1825) in Annapolis County, NS in 1871 (see CanGenWeb archives).
