[1605] No known family. Listing in 1880 US Census in Boston, Massachusetts. MAY be connected to the family of Moses Handspiker and his wife Ellen, though that does not fit with the information listed. She is listed as the only Handspiker in the household of James Coughlin aged 21, wife Catherine, listed as his niece. Her father listed as born in NS and mother in Massachusetts. It actually lists her relationship as "NieceL" so not sure, but that may be niece-in-law???

[667] This MAY be the Mary who married Gabriel Van Horne??? No other in the area, unless Philip had a sister with him, but that has not seemed likely, before. I am listing Gabriel as a husband, for now, of this Mary.

A.K.A. Samantha Sarah Purdy (nickname "Mattie").
Older data had Sarah born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, USA, however, since her father did not immigrate until 4 or 5 years after her birth, this is likely incorrect.
Following hand-scribed from Digby Courier, by Luella Marshall:
Mrs. Samantha S. Handspiker, d/o Josiah and Frances Purdy passed peacefully away at their home at Searsmont, Maine, on Jan 11th. Mrs Handspiker was born at Bear River, Digby County, Dec 5th 1882, married to Jeremiah Handspiker of Digby 22 years ago. Moved to America 18 years ago and took up residence in Ogunquit, Maine. In 1927 moved to Searsmont, Maine. She leaves a husband and four children: Meredith 21, Francis 18, Ruth 16, Dorothy 10. She has been a member of the Baptist Church since the age of nine, a faithful worker in the Ogunquit Church since coming here. It can truly be said "Blessed are the Dead who die in the Lord."
I believe this was a reprint of an obituary in a Maine newspaper, based on the phrase "since coming here".
NOTE: Most of Sarah's ancestral line is in my children's ancestral line (located elsewhere on this site). For the sake of "fit," however, I'm including her direct line back to the Purdy Loyalist Ancestor, without much lateral information as that is in the other database.

[475] Listed as 63 in 1940, which, if true, would make his birthyear 1877.
[1143] Have seen records indicating Sarah, w/o Ross was buried in the Grace United - Fairview Methodist Cemetery, with a burial date of 10-Jul-1875. Either he married two Sarahs, or, the 1833 date is incorrect.
