Lived at Mount Pleasant, Nova Scotia, Canada. In his son Thomas' obituary, it lists a Vincent Handspiker as a half-brother to Thomas. Lovina and Myrtle were mentioned as half-sisters to Thomas in his obituary, as well.
In the 1901 Culloden Census, appears yet this James, but what's with the dates???
James - Husb. b. 4-Jun-1873 (Methodist) Previously recorded as 20-Apr-1870 (and that date appears as this James' birth date in several sources, also as his christening date). The 1870 date also makes more sense with Census Records for Digby County, as the James E, son of Charles and Margaret shows as 1, 10 and 20, in the 1871, 1881 and 1891 Cenus records, respectively. This does cause one to wonder if, perhaps, as has sometimes been the case, a child born earlier, dying young, is honored by giving a child born later, the same name. Just a thought. Yet another possibility would be a birth year of 1870 and christening/bapt. of 1875. If the 1870 were a younger brother who died young, why would James be listed as 20 in 1891? I truly believe the 1870 James and 1875 James are the same. Just not sure why the difference in dates.
May or Mary - Wife b. 15-Aug-1875 (Roman Catholic)
Mary ? - Dau. b. 20-Jun-1896
James - Son b. 12-Sep-1898
I do believe there are some Davids and James in abundance. Some, possibly being born in the same year, in the same location. It is only with great care and patience that all the connections will, eventually, be figured out.
Other sources indicate possible b.d. of 20-Apr-1870. Same source indicates marriage to Mary was in Doucetville.
It also seems odd that some of James' descendants have been known to omit the "d" in the name. Much like the Hanspikers of Truro, NS.
Index of Digby Courier indicates James was married 18-Jan-1929, and that a "Mrs. James H." died 17-Jan-1928 (it is possible the death date I have of 6-Feb-1928 is incorrect, and MAY be a burial date - though 20 days dead before burial seems a bit much).
