ONE possibility for Hattie:
1881 Canada Census, Barrington, Shelburne, NS:
Martin FORBES M Male English 38 Nova Scotia Sea Captain Baptist
Maria FORBES M Female English 39 Nova Scotia Baptist
Annie FORBES Female English 14 Nova Scotia Student Baptist
Hattie FORBES Female English 13 Nova Scotia Student Baptist
Edna FORBES Female English 9 Nova Scotia Student Baptist
Joseph FORBES Male English 7 Nova Scotia Student Baptist
Martin FORBES Male English 3 Nova Scotia Free Baptist
It's surely the right area, and would indicate Hattie was born around 1868. This would mean she was 11 years older than Franklin (give or take). That's NOT impossible, but could be considered "rare."
Should the Martin Forbes connection prove to be correct, then the following could be added:
Martin Leslie Forbes married on 26-Jan-1864 to Maria Doane Kendrick, b. 19-May-1842, d/o Joseph Atwood Kendrick (b. 11-Jul-1819, Barrington, NS) and Irene Kendrick Doane (b. 17-Jul-1818)
Joseph was son of John Kendrick.
From Dalhousie Manuscript Collection:
"Forbes, Martin Leslie, MS-2-400, (1842-) Master Mariner, Woods Harbour, Shelbourne Co., NS, log book of the barque "Cyclone", June 30, 1874 - June 19, 1875, account books of the "bk" "Aspatogan", 1877-83 and the "bk" "Nellie Moody", 1886. Letter from A. F. Stoneham, Yarmouth, NS, May 1, 1886, Extent 3 cm."
Some now defunct genealogy site shows "Forbes, Hattie (1868-1914)" on Google search, but can't even access the Cached version of the search hit. ORIGINAL site (no longer good, I guess was:
www.genealogynet.com/resident/genejane/gedcoms/Genejanes/
Her new page is: http://www.genealogynet.com/resident/genejane/ but no way to find any Forbes references, as that's the kind of site it is... e-mailed her asking for info.
