In 1861 Census for Canning Parish, Queens County, NB, Canada, he is found in a listing for the Coyle family. Though, oddly enough, according to the Census, Head of Household, William Coyle was 24, wife was 27, brother Robert was 19. the rest of the people in the house are all males between the ages of 18 and 40, with the exception of on 27 year-old lady. All the non-Coyle family members are listed as "Servants" (in terms of relation to Head of Household), and all except Sylvester, listed as a surveyor, are listed as Labourers.
