[616] Am NEARLY certain, this is Edmund/Edmond Needham Handspiker.

Due to the fact that this man is seen as "Edward", "Edwin", "Edmund" and "Edmond," depending on source, I often wonder if the middle initial is what causes the confusion. Perhaps, he was an Edward Edmund, or and Edwin Edmond? To date (Apr-2002) have only seen this Edward E. in the Census records. Never any marriage or birth records. This man (whether or not he is ALSO Edwin Bartlett Handspiker, is the one who married Mary Jane Weagle/Almon/etc. Also, that he may have used "Edw." more regularly to spell his name, as it may have been written as Edward/Edwin/Edmund! More research needed, but, it's looking less and less likely that Edwin B. was father to Edward T. For that matter, he may have been Edmund Needham, as well! So much to unravel with these families, because the twines of genealogical threads have become too entangled over the years since these families were alive.

Looks like Mary J. could be the Mary Jane Weagle or Almon, or Almon Weagle or Weagle Almon who so confused the situation with Edwin Bartlett Handspiker. Since records of Mary Jane once indicated she was the daughter of William and Sarah (Almon or Weagle) this is another avenue to approach, in terms of figuring out the connections.

Further research of Colchester County Census of 1891 and 1901, give a bit more insight into the Edwards of Truro. Edward E. was 73(ish) in 1891, which would put his birthdate about 1818. Which is not far off from the 1820 one, listed for Edward E., here.

As for the wife/wives, it APPEARS Edward E. had a wife aged 39 in 1891, OR, it was an elder daughter, possibly from an earlier marriage? The next oldest child is Edward T. at 23, which is also about 3 years off from actual (if you used the Census of 1901!). Others are listed here, as seen on the Census. Whether all the children belong to Edward E, is debatable, whether or not they all had Mary J. or Jane as their mother is another story. Theoretically, she is 16 years older than Edward T. so, COULD be his mother! That would have put Edward E. as 34 years her senior, as he was 50, when Edward T. was born!

Also seen as Edward H. Handspiker (in marriage of Edward T. to Flora MacKay).

The only date associated with "Mary Jane" was recorded as 19-Apr-1866. However, I have no idea where that came from. Perhaps Mary Jane Almon was one wife, Weagle another? Or, the "Jane" who was 39 in 1891 is not this Mary Jane, but another Jane, maybe? It's obvious that at LEAST Stephen could NOT have been born to "Jane" of the 1891 Census, as she would have been 1) too young and 2) not married to Edward - unless 1866 date is for Mary Jane, which would then indicate yet another wife (three).

Possibly this man born in Germany, mother born in England? Religion: Salvation Army, Occupation:
Shoemaker?

Need to cross reference Edwin Bartlett, Edmund Needham and Edward E. Handspiker!!!!!!!!
This man "Edward E." is referenced in 1881 Census for Milford, Guysborough, Nova Scotia, as "Edmond". AND, listed as age 50! Wife, Mary Jane, age 30!

For certain, the Guysborough group includes "Ed", Mary Jane and the children, Stephen, Ida, Aggie, Josephine, Florence, and most likely Alex. Here's the group:

Edmond HANSPIKER M Male German 50 Nova Scotia Shoemaker Baptist
Mary Jane HANSPIKER M Female English 30 Nova Scotia Baptist
Stephen F. HANSPIKER Male German 14 Nova Scotia School Baptist
Ida May HANSPIKER Female German 12 Nova Scotia School Baptist
Aggie D. HANSPIKER Female German 8 Nova Scotia School Baptist
Josephena HANSPIKER Female German 5 Nova Scotia Baptist
Florence HANSPIKER Female German 2 Nova Scotia Baptist

Have reason to believe a beginning to sorting out the Edward/Edmund (or Edmond)/Edwin controversy is starting to take shape. Edwin Bartlett and Edmund Needham were both sons of Peter Handspiker/Hanselpiker and Ferebee Fanning. I BELIEVE both brothers, at least for one marriage, each, married into the Keene family. Suspicions are, however, that PERHAPS only Edmund did, and Edwin married (likely twice) to Mary Jane Almon Weagle and Jennie Wentzell. I've not really figured out the Margaret Ann Smith connection,
