She married Thomas Ford, son of John Ford, on 19 June 1616 at Bridport, Dorset, England. Elizabeth Charde died circa 1643.

William (Walter) Deane (M)

     William (Walter) Deane Is either father to, or uncle/grandfather? To Margaret Deane who married John Strong first. So will need further research on the Deane family in Somerset.

Some further research, from New England Historic Genealogical Register Vol 139 Page 324 and 325 cover 'additions to the Deane ancestry in England' from a John B. Threlfall, Madison, Wisconsin. As follows: Walter Deane of South Chard, Somersetshire, England, is the earliest proven ancestor of John and Walter Deane who settled Taunton, Massachusetts in the 1630s. He was their grandfather. However, he was probably the grandson of John and Joan (Selwood) Deane mentioned in Nicholas Selwood's (Joan's father) will. Walter Deane of Taunton married Eleanor Cogan, daughter of William Cogan of South Chard, who was, no doubt, a descendant of the William Cogan named in Nicholas Selwood's will. (see photocopy for will). On 12-nov-1565 at Buckland Saint Mary, which is 5 miles northwest of Chard, Walter Deane married Joan Walsele.
The name in modern form was probably Walsley. The parish register, which commences in 1540, has no record of Joan's baptism. And no probate records for this family can be found. Walter (William?) Died 1585-91. Joan died 1597. Probably buried in the churchyard at Chard as he requested in his will. Joan's will of 29-mar-1597 reads in part....'to Joanne, daughter of my son William, to son William, to daughter Elianor ***, ....... Joane Deane to be executrix.....' in her husband's (Walter) will it reads, in part ....'to Eleanor Deane my daughter. 30 pds...' also mentions daughter Joan, wife Joan, and son William. Of special note, is the prover of the will, a notary public named Geoffrey Clarke, possibly the Clarke's of Northampton were of Somersetshire, as well? In NEHGR Jul,1993 Vol CXLVII/whole number 587, there is an article by H. Clark Dean, concerning the questions of the Dean ancestry saying that Eleanor Cogan married Walter Dean(e) of Taunton, Massachusetts.

Slocum sailed the 'Spray' around the world, from Boston, Massachusetts, on 24-Apr-1895, sailing 46,000 miles, and landing at Newport, Rhode Island on 27-Jun-1898. He was the first man to ever sail around the world, solo. He also sailed the 'Amethyst', built in Boston in 1822, and the Northern Light, as well.

On November 14th, 1909, Captain Slocum set sail in the 'Spray' on his 'winter vacation' (probably headed to the West Indies). After the 'Spray' set sail, she was never heard from again. Somewhere on the high seas the captain's luck ran out. He was born on 20 February 1844 at Wilmot, Annapolis, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the son of John Slocomb and Sarah Jane Southern. Joshua Upham Slocomb died in 1909 at at sea.
