Jeremiah inherited the old homestead in 1713, sold it the same year and removed to Norton where he was the first school teacher. His mother was with him in Norton. Later he removed into the north part of Taunton where some of his descendants still lived in 1932, occupying a part of the old location near the triangular cemetery, opposite the Bassett Cemetery. He was born circa 1678 at Bridgewater, Massachusetts, USA. He was the son of Joseph Bassett and Martha Hobart. Jeremiah Bassett married Mary Felch on 3 March 1721. Jeremiah Bassett died on 29 July 1768 at North Taunton, Massachusetts, USA.
