Pop-up Pedigree

Her married name was Dore. Sarah Child Patty Rose's genealogy offers a different 'angle' on Sarah and ancestry, at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~pattyrose/engel/ps14/ps14_457.htm

She lists same date of birth, same marriage to Philip Dore, but lists parents as Henry Child and Sarah Nason. She also has Sarah born in Kittery, Maine (LDS adds Berwick, ME, but multiple sources indicate Henry and Sarah, not William and Elizabeth). And Philip, b. 1678, at Portsmouth. Her reference for Sarah's birth, is Sybil Noyes; Charles T. Libby; Walter G. Davis. 'Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire, Surnames.' Baltimore:1996. Without consulting, will leave current line, 'as is', until I can get my hands on this reference.

CONCERN: Was Sarah Child daughter of, or SISTER of William Child, who married Elizabeth?

Based solely on KNOWN dates of birth, it is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that William was father to Sarah, but, more likely a brother (as is how I will now list him). For Henry to be born 1651, and Sarah, 1680, that means he'd have been a grandfather at 29. Not IMPOSSIBLE, surely, but MOST improbable!!! She was born on 26 October 1680 at Newington, New Hampshire, USA. She was the daughter of Henry Child and Sarah Nason. Sarah Child married Philip Dore, son of Richard Dore and Tamsen (Thomasin) Jackson, on 20 May 1708 at North Church, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA. SUSPECT the 'V' COULD be 'Verrill' as it shows up as such in later generations.

b.d. calculated from age at time of death.

Based on Edward and Family's location in 1850, I'd NOT be surprised seeing some of his children listing Mass. as a birth place. As much as NH/ME are identical in the Berwick/Somersworth area!

In Early Strafford Marriages (Canney) book: Edward V. Perkins, who married Sophia Watson, 27-Nov-1831. Edward b. @1810, d. 9-May-1872. Sophia d. 6-Feb-1894.

NOTE: A 'contemporary', Edward Perkins, father of Edward Wight Perkins (Edward W.) of Waldo County, Maine, is the one who married Joanna Wight. That Edward was born @1804, and his son, Edward W., b. 1829.

On Edward 'Warren's' marriage record, lists this Edward as possibly a Doctor.

Interestingly, in 1850 US Census, the family appears in Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts (1049-1181), as follows:

Edward V. Perkins, 40, m, Agent for Insurance Co.

In the same house is another family, surname looks like Shorey.

Shorey, Levi W, 34, m, w,
', Mary, 28, f, w,
', Maynard, 10, m, w,
', Sophia S., 4, f, w,

That being the family of Edward's daughter, Mary E. Perkins and her young husband, Levi Shorey.

For 1880 Census, see Sophia, as Edward passed prior to 1880.

NOTE: Based on Lord's Cemetery burials, it appears Edward MAY have had a brother, Seth 'W', whose wife, Eliza A. is buried there, also (not sure if NEAR Edward and Sophia), Eliza (Mar/Apr1826 - 18Aug1851).

If we can find the marriage record, indicating either bride or groom's parents, great. If not, we MAY be able to narrow down possibilities, if we can find out how old Sophia was, at time of death. If she was close to 88, then the parents, below, are the only possibility. If far from it, then we have some more looking to do. Census records indicate 1809 b.d., but, we know how census records are, not to mention women and ages *smile*

DISTANT POSSIBLE ROOTS for Sophia Watson:

One, b. @1806, lived in Sandwich. Her father was Otis Baker Watson, mother Charity Horn.

Otis - bapt. 30-Sep-1753, d. 11-Mar-1815, Sandwich, NH b: in Dover, Strafford Co, NH

Charity - b: 1763 in Dover, Stafford, New Hampshire d. 22-Jul-1848, aged @85, Sandwich, NH

At time of publiation of 'The Otis Genealogy', Sophia listed as single, and living at Sandwich. But, the Otis Genealogy covered 1581-1830, so may NOT have reflected her 1831 marriage... chances become a bit better, now that the inclusive dates of the 'work' are known (had not been, previously). So, based on approximate age, location and name, this Sopia, d/o Otis Baker Watson, is, currently (Jun-2003) the best 'candidate' for consideration as Edward's wife.

All children of Otis and Charity, born 1789-1813, so COULD be some off 'delta' here, if their daughter is the same Sophia as married Edward V. Perkins. Otis was in Dover in 1790 and 1800 Census records, then, Alton, for 1810. She was buried at Lord's Cemetery, Berwick, Maine, USA. Her married name was Perkins. She was born circa 1808 at New Hampshire, USA. She married Edward V. Perkins, son of Mr. Perkins and Mrs. Perkins, on 27 November 1831 at Strafford County, New Hampshire, USA. Sophia Watson died on 6 May 1894 at Berwick, York County, Maine, USA.

Trickey, Phil S., son, w, m, Aug-1897, 2, S, ME, ME, ME

This indicates Grace A. was a Perkins who married Walter Trickey and had Phil.
With an 8/6 child count, two children of Elizabeth's were no longer living. There was a 40 year gap between Census records, so much would have likely changed.
