Mr. Tilton, the father-in-law of William White, also received brutal treatment from the rebels.
He was manacled and fed on horseflesh five years in Monmouth jail. Though endowed with a constitution of iron, he was unable to walk on gaining his liberty: the side of which he lay being deformed and shielded with a covering not unlike sole-leather.
Vincent White, of Belleisle, Kings County, and son of William White visited Mr. Tilton in the year 1811. Capt. John Tilton, Clayton Tilton, of Musquash, and Theodore Tilton, of New York, are descendants of the brothers of this Mr. Tilton.
Captain John Tilton, mentioned in above paragraph, was the commander of a British Man-o-war of seven hundred tons.
