John Camfield Of MOST important note. St. Matthew, Harlestone/Harlaston, was a chapelry of Clifton Campville.... This somewhat overlooked fact, SURELY leads to greater possibility that the Camfield/Canfield line descends from the 'de Campville' line. Clifton Campville parish became part of Tamworth Union following the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834. For some time after the Norman conquest, the manor of Clifton was held by the king, and from the year 1200 to 1315, by the Camville family. In 1700 it was sold, by the Coventry family, to Sir Charles Pye, Bart, an ancestor of the present owner.

The fact that John was buried at St. Andrews, indicates, he was more likely buried in Campville than Harlestone.

Of course the real major problem with all this is that previous researchers indicated 'Harlestone, Northamptonshire' and Harlaston, if my theory is correct, is NOT in Northamptonshire, but Staffordshire, near the four county intersection of Stafford, Derby, Leicester, and Warwick. Mind you, Harlestone, in Northants, is not TERRIBLY far away from Harlaston in Staffordshire, based on a quick look at the map. After all, Northamptonshire is just below Warwickshire and Leicestershire. He was buried at Saint Andrews Church, Harlestone, Northamptonshire, England. He was born in 1490 at Harlestone, Northamptonshire, England. He was the son of John Caumfield. John Camfield died in 1557 at England.

Her married name was Dann. Deborah (Debro) Green Some concern on Deborah, as another by the same name married in 1712 to Cornelius Delavan. However, based on 1701 year of birth, find it hard to believe she'd have been married at 11 and already had her first child in Sep-1712, if such WERE the case. She was born on 25 April 1701 at Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA. She was the daughter of Benjamin Green and Hester Clements.      Francis Dann was born Cir 1656-59 at England or Barbados. He was the son of John Dann and Mary ?. Francis Dann NOTE: No reference to Dan or Dann in Savage's GDNE. Closest possibility is Dane, with a Francis and John of around same timeframe, though showing Francis marrying 16-Nov-1681 to Hannah Poor. Given Torrey's account, Francis and Elizabeth were married in 1685, so not likely same man as married Hannah.

One reason likely not mentioned in Savage's GDNE is by some accounts, he did not arrive in the colonies until around 1684 (year before marriage). In 1684, he is reported to have purchased some land in or around Stamford, CT.

They went first to France where the name was changed to Clayson (which is a direct translation of McClay, by the way). Legend has it that Stephen came to the colonies, while William went to England. He was born on 11 November 1633. He married Elizabeth Periment on 11 November 1654 at Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA. Stephen Clason died on 15 March 1699 at Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA, at age 65.

b. circa 1631, d. 10 May 1714

Elizabeth Periment From 'Clason Memorial of Stamford, Connecticut, in 1654, by William B. Lapham,1892'

'Elizabeth was tried at Fairfield, Connecticut, in 1692 for witchcraft. She was found not guilty. An account of this trial is found in the article, 'Elizabeth Clawson...Thou deseruest to dye' by Ronald Marcus, Stamford Historical Society, Inc. Stamford, Connecticut, 1976. The following was taken from that article: A large contingency of Elizabeth's friends shared the same strong
faith in her innocence by subscribing their names to an affidavit attesting to her good character. Despite the wide-spread belief in the existence of witchcraft and the punishment prescribed for its practice, these residents of Stamford stood firm. The testimony to the good character of the accused Elizabeth was a valiant act, perhaps something unique at that time in Connecticut history.
'Oer neighbour Stephen Clason haueing desired us whose names are under writen: seing here is such a report of his wife raised by sume among us: that we would speak: waht we know conserning his said wife and her behauiour among us for so many yeers now know al whom it may consern that we doe declare that since we haue known our said neighbour goodwife
Clason we haue not known her to be of a contentious frame nor giuen to use threatning words or to act malisiously towards her neighbors but hath bene siuil and orderly towards others in her conuersation and not to be a busybody in other mens conserns: giuen under our hands in Stanford: 4th June: 1692.' (Signed by her neighbors but not by her son-in-law, Francis
Dann and daughter, Elizabeth Clason Dann.)

A document from the Stamford Gen. Soc. quotes another source:

'Mrs. Clason was indicted with 5 other women, on charges by a servant girl prone to seizures, and confined to jail. She and another accused were bound and thrown into water. The preliminary investigation of a special Court stated that she had 'familiarity with Satan'...'and deserved to dye.' While the first jury failed to reach a verdict, a second jury later found Clasen innocent.' Her married name was Clason. She was born circa 1631. She married Stephen Clason on 11 November 1654 at Stamford, Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA. Elizabeth Periment died on 10 May 1714 at Connecticut, USA.
