     Elizabeth Eleanor Sherwood CENSUS records seem to indicate Elizabeth was born in New Brunswick, Canada. 1900 Census indicates she was born in July-1847 and arrived in US in 1849. I now suspect the 'Brunswick' of New Brunswick may have been mistaken for Brunswick, Cumberland, Maine, as current record reflects. However, will do further research to make better determination. Both parents listed as born in Canada, as well. So, her actual place of birth was in 'Brunswick'... whether Brunswick, ME or New Brunswick, Canada, is up to debate. Given POB of parents in census records, suspect, actually, NB is more probable POB for Elizabeth.

Here's ONE possible line...

1870 US Census for Old Town, Penobscot, ME, lists Elizabeth Sherwood, age 23, b. NB, Canada, working in a cotton factory.
Her father, William, found 'sawing boards' in Orono, ME same year. Aside from him, not ONE of the other siblings, or even the mother can be found in 1870 US census. Were they, then, in NB?

William, 98, m, b. NY (there's a fun one!) Guessing he'd have been born 1772, so surely his family could have been NB Loyalists! I TRULY think this is the right family, as it makes sense of all the Brunswick, NB, and ME listings.

Unfortunately, not likely any further 'backwards progress' can be made on this line (at least I've had no luck in several attempts - 2006).

In MANY cases, especially with areas of Maine closer to NB border, there are constantly errors in POBs as sometimes families were so mixed with who was born north or south of the border that it would change from census year to census year. I BELIEVE that may well be the case, here. Reference: HFWEST-1. Her married name was West. She was born on 4 April 1848 at New Brunswick, Canada. She married Lewis Leman West, son of Jonathan West and Elizabeth M. Leman, circa 1875. Elizabeth Eleanor Sherwood died on 6 July 1916 at Methuen, Massachusetts, USA, at age 68.

Archibald is listed as 35 in the 1920 Census. Prior b.d. was @1883, have changed it to @1884 to reflect a more likely date. He was listed as an electrician for a woolen mill, residing at 177 Lowell Street in Methuen.

Additional records indicate Archibald and Lillian had been married just 3 years (@1906/07). Also, that Freida had four children, with only one living (this is QUITE odd, as we have Arthur in residence, with Lillian! Perhaps, as sometimes happened, the census taker was not precise in instructions? Or was Freida not mother to one of the two siblings, Lillian and Arthur? It also indicates she arrived in the US in 1876, and was married @1878 or so.

In 1900 Census, lists birth month/year as Mar-1883. This agrees with original 1883, but not with date of December. Wonder if December was month baptised???
