He is also, nearly as I can tell, the progenitor of the Gay name in the areas of Dedham and Wrentham in Norfolk Co, MA. He was born circa 1600 at Ashford, Kent, England. He was born on 13 July 1615 at Plymouth, Devonshire, England. He married Joanna Borden circa 1637 at Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA. John Gay was buried in 1687 at Old Village Cemetery, Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA. He died on 4 March 1687 or 1688 at Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA.

Thomas H. Piper (M)

     Thomas H. Piper Rather concerned on dating of Thomas. Given that Thomas C. was born same year, it makes for a great deal of confusion. Surely, Thomas H. was born abt. 1814 in New Hampshire. Unless both Thomas H. and Thomas C. were both born within a year of each other in Hopkinton, I am worried that Thomas H. is NOT as listed birth date/place. Though the dates of birth and death are different than those of Thomas C, as listed in LDS IGI, it's still so close that one must be extremely careful when analyzing further data (i.e. parents!).

Thomas C. Piper was b. 30-Nov-1814, also at Hopkinton, but died 08-May-1878, and was son of Nathaniel Piper and Mehitable Davis. Nathaniel married Mehitable in 1813, and died 06-May-1825, probably in or near Hopkinton. Nathaniel was born 18-Sep-1785, Clements Hill - Hopkinton? This is the Thomas C. who married Louisa B. Eaton at Hopkinton on 13-Feb-1842. They had a son, Thomas W. Piper, b. 01-Feb-1843, Hopkinton, who died in VA in 1864, probably while fighting in Civil War.

According to at least ONE source, Nathaniel was s/o Nathan Piper and Hannah Stockbridge,who had 15 children!! ONE child was Thomas, b. 15-Dec-1787, d. 17-Jun-1818 (most likely Thomas H's father). This family was originated in Rockingham County, though. Nathan b.04-Jun-1751, Stratham, NH, married Hannah Stockbridge on 3-Dec-1772. So, Thomas C. and Thomas H. were cousins, both being grandsons of Nathan Piper and Hannah Stockbridge.




One possibility, though also a longshot... A Thomas Jefferson Piper b. @1815, NH, son of Francis Piper and Abigail Wiggin . He did have an elder brother named George W, (same name as his son).

There's a Lorenzo in earlier Census records (1850), b. 1811, but married to Sarah. According to Sullivan County Cemetery records, for 'Northville Cemetery' THAT Lorenzo b. 1811, d. 06-Nov-1889, and his wife, Sarah, d. 28-Apr-1859, age 43. Only other two in that cemetery are Dexter Lorenzo Dow (1840-1907) and his wife, Calista (1837-1922). This HAS to be the same Lorenzo, based on these factors. Only problem now... what about Ada Dow? Was she d/o Lorenzo and Sarah or Rhoda? Would SEEM more likely Sarah, if correct Lorenzo! Just can't find 1860 Census record for Lorenzo,which SHOULD help! He was born circa 1812 at New Hampshire, USA.

     John Rowe Lieut. John Rowe. Came to Andover from Kingston, NH in 1765. Assumptions have apparently been made that based on him being listed aged 81 at time of death, he was therefore b. 1744, and was therefore also only 21 when coming from Kingston, NH to Andover, NH.

THIS John, is SURELY not the same who was of Gloucester, MA, b. AUGUST-1737. That one has a well-documented family, and remained in Gloucester through @1800 (time of his death)

It would seem certainly a possibility that the 1744 date of birth for John is not correct. He'd have married at age 17, for on. Secondly, he'd have been a Lieut. at only 21 (possible, but again, not likely).

There IS a John Rowe, b. 30-Jan-1737, Hampton Falls, NH. This is not all THAT far from Kingston, and certainly would be possible to be born Hampton Falls, move to Kingston, then on to Grafton Co. This would also be a bit more likely, given that Susanna was b. 1741, and a marriage in 1761, again, makes 1737 far more believable than 1744. In fact, have seen others listing his birth as @1741. That one is likely based on age of Susanna. The only possible place the 1744 has come from, near as I can tell, is his age being listed as 81, in 1825, when he died. What if the 81 were 87? This is not a 'reach' for error.
As there's never been any marriage or descendants connected to the John Rowe b. Jan-1737, and no ancestry ever connected for the John b. 1744, one might offer up at least a GOOD possibility these two gentlemen are one and the same.

Here is another note on John from Andover History (one might suspect):
- - Lt in militaryJohn Rowe (1744-1825) was a private, 1775, in Capt. Levi Spaulding's company, New Hampshire troops, and, 1777, served in Capt. Amos Emerson's company, Col. Joseph Cilley's regiment. He was born in Kingston; died in Andover, N. H.

Kingston is only one town removed from Hampton Falls, so there's no significant 'geographical stretch' to this assumption or theory. Only the years between 1737 and 1744. Some possible reasonings follow on this theory:

1) No connection to ANY ancestors for John Rowe b. 1744
2) No marriage or children ever connected to John Rowe b. Jan-1737 (yes, to Aug-1737, but that's a different John)
3) If b. 1744, was only 17 when married to a woman who would have been 3-4 years his senior
4) LESS than 10 miles separate Kingston (presumed birth location for 1744 John) and Hampton Falls (birth location of Jan-1737 John)
5) IF John was baptized later than other children, or, if his family happened to remove from a Hampton Falls church to a Kingston one, he MIGHT have been baptized in 1744 in KINGSTON, yet still have been born in 1737, at Hampton Falls.
6) Only KNOWN source for year of birth I've seen is his being listed aged 81 in 1825, when he died. If this was from a history, or a written document OTHER than an original notice of death, there's a CHANCE that 87 could have been read as 81 or even an 89 misread, similarly. This would put his birth 1736-1738, which would surely encompass the Jan-1737 DOB in this theory.

One would suppose, if his gravemarker is still readable, perhaps it can be checked more closely to see if an 87 or 81 is truly the 'impression' originally placed there by the carver of the stone.
