Jozsef Hevesi , Jr. Family lived on Lexington Ave in Norwalk, for 1920 Census, at #20. At #18 lived 'Steve' Balazs, aged 48 with a wife Clara (just in case related). In Census, Joseph is listed as 49, with wife Klara (Clara) at 46. Apparently he arrived in the US in 1884 and she in 1891, he naturalized in 1891 and she in 1894 (if I'm reading this correctly). The children are listed as follows: Elizabeth 21 , Bertha 18 , Steve 16 , Alex 13, Andrew 10 and Julia 9. It also shows Elizabeth's birthplace as Ohio, not Connecticut like the rest of the children. Joseph's occupation is show as 'Polisher' in a Lock Shop. Nothing for Clara. Elizabeth as a Trimmer in a hat shop, Bertha as a Liner in the same. Steve is listed as a Polisher in some sort of factory which I can not make out.
Apparently the Hevesy's were pretty good partiers. They used a barn next to the house (possibly #22 Lexington Ave) to show movies, Joseph and Stephen had a still and, at some point (probably the 30's, during Prohibition) #20 Lexington Ave had a speakeasy in the basement. Dale Hevesy, grandson of Andrew Sr. has pictures of the basement at that time.
1925 Norwalk City Directory lists Joseph and Clara at their 20 Lexington Avenue address with his occupation as 'polisher'.
