Polly (likely Mary 'Polly') Phelps Polly Phelps, b. @1778, possibly VT. Polly is often a 'nickname' for Mary or, in later years, Pauline.
Pauline, in 18th century, was NOT common by any stretch of the imagination, so it is MOST likely that
'our' Polly Phelps was born Mary (or with some stretch, Polly WAS her birth name - this was also quite rare).
That said...
There's a Mary Phelps, b. 18-Mar-1780, d/o Barnabas Phelps and Eunice Isham.
Barnabas b. @1739, Colchester, CT, d. 9-Jun-1794, Goshen, NH. Eunice b. 25-Aug-1743, Colchester, CT, d. 22-Nov-1815, m. 20-Jan-1766, Colchester.
Since Warren Chamberlin was b. Jan-1780, this is surely a possibility. Also, given Strafford Co, VT history, there was a LOT of cross-river marriages, family birth orders, etc.
Also, in 1800 Census, Barnabas was residing in Berkshire, Franklin Co, VT.
There is not death date or marriage listed for this Mary Phelps, either, which is good, as it means there's no contradictory data in NON-support of this being the same woman who married Warren Chamberlin. That said, there is, to date, no SUPPORTING data, other than name and geographic and chronologic proximity to indicate this Mary is any more than a POTENTIAL candidate to be the wife of Warren Chamberlin. Her married name was Chamberlin. She was born in 1778. She married
Warren Chamberlin, son of
Amasa Chamberlin and
Molly Briscoe, on 10 April 1799 at
Strafford, Orange County, Vermont, USA. Polly (likely Mary 'Polly') Phelps died on 8 October 1832 at
Strafford, Orange County, Vermont, USA.
