Rev. E.C. churchill conducted the servi ce. Born at Southville, Digby Co., 78 years ago, he was a son of the late Asa and Melissa Porter. He was a member of The Church of Christ, Southville. His wife, Sara Etta Porter, predeceased him in December, 1953. Left to mourn his passing are fou r daughters, Kathryn (Mrs. D. Malcolm Purdy) R.N., Lynn, Mass; Kathleen (Mrs. Robert Layfield) Dartmouth, NS; Theta (Mrs. James MacGill), Middleton; Ruby (Mrs. Lorenzo Mailman) Springhill, Annapolis Co; four sons, Fritz of Aylesford; Carl, of Midd leton; Clarence and Guy of Roxville, the latter who has tenderly cared for him for the past four years. One son, roy, predeceased him eleven years ago. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren. Notes: 1953 Mrs. William Porter died on Sunday, December 6, 1953 Source: Newspaper clipping Submitter: gail metcalfe The community of Roxville was saddened by the sudden passing of Sarah Etta Porter, beloved wife of William C. Porter on Sunday afternoon, December 6 at the age of 65 years. Mrs. Porter suffered from a heart attack a month ago and rallied, but suff ered a second one on Saturday evening. She is survived by four daughters, (Katherine) Mrs D. Malcolm Purdy, Lynn, Mass; (Kathleen) Mrs. Robert Layfield, Dartmouth, NS; (Theta) Mrs. James MacGill, Middleton; (Ruby) Mrs. Lorenzo Mailman, Springfield . Four sons, Fritz, Aylesford; Clarence and Guy, Roxville; and Carl, of Middleton. One son, Roy, predeceased her eight years ago. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren. Funeral service was held from the home Wednesday afternoon with servic e later at the United Church in Digby. Interment was in the United Church cemetery, Digby.
