What's interesting is, he built the ship in Edmund Hartt's shipyard, in Boston, who MAY be related to the Hart lline found in this genealogy. Col. Claghorn commanded a regiment during the American Revolution. While at Bunker Hill, he was shote in the knee, and was forever lame, following this injury. Other than the Constitution, he built the 'Rebecca', the first American Whaler to double Cape Horn. In his day, he was a man of means, owning a ship yard in New Bedford. Legend has it he was financially ruined by a wayward son (which?). He was born on 6 July 1748 at Chilmark, Dukes County, Massachusetts, USA. He was the son of Shubael Claghorn and Experience Hawes. George Claghorn married Deborah Brownell on 20 December 1769 at Dartmouth, Bristol County, Massachusetts, USA. George Claghorn died on 5 February 1824 at Seekonk, Massachusetts, USA, at age 75.
