Notes:
Notes: Have reason to suspect a connection between Margaret and Ellen Handspiker (b. 1879/1880). Margaret was born in Massachusetts, and John born in NS. Ellen is listed as a Niece-in-Law of a Mr. Coughlin (possibly, if Ellen is child of John and Marga ret, she was in the care of Margaret's aunt, who was married to Mr. Coughlin???) I know it's a longshot, but they are the only Handspiker families in the Boston area in 1880. Both of Margaret's parents were born in Ireland. Here's an interesting 1900 US Census... might help shed some light... or offer even more confusion: Other Handspikers in 1900 for Boston: (Porter?) Franklin, head, Jun-1859, MA, MA, MA, teamster Margaret, wife, Nov-1863, 36, (married 12 years), 6/3, MA, ME, ME, HANDSPIKER, Martha M (or W), stepdau, Feb-1872, 18 (or 16), MA, Can, MA, (SHOULD read 1882, given age) HANDSPIKER, Mabel C., stepdau, Feb-1876, 14, S, MA, Can, MA, (SHOULD read 1886, given age) "HANSPIKER", Ellen, lodger, Jan-1840, 60, 4/0, Can, Ireland, (Ire or Eng), arr: 1870 or 90, (Ellen, of course, being her FORMER Mother-In-Law) TRULY, there is a lot of garbage to sort out on this family. Given the recent addition of an 1879 marriage, and Martha Margaret being born 1882, not 1872... makes for some interesting problems/concerns/searches/hunts/etc! 1880 Census... Boston, she was b. Dorchester, His parents were Benjamin and Melvina, hers were William and Margaret Davern, it was his first, her second marriage. See 19 00 Census for Parker, Franklin. Was her MAIDEN name Handspiker, as well? Or, was that her married name when she married Franklin? After all, it was her 2nd marriage. Ellen listed with family, but shows no surviving children as of 1900, so not sur e how this all fits.
