Notes: No known family. Listing in 1880 US Census in Boston, Massachusetts. MAY be connected to the family of Moses Handspiker and his wife Ellen, though that does not EASILY fit with the information listed. She is listed as the only Handspiker in th e household of James Coughlin aged 21, wife Catherine, listed as his niece. Her father listed as born in NS and mother in Massachusetts. It actually lists her relationship as "NieceL" so not sure, but that may be niece-in-law???

COULD be daughter of John Seymour Handspiker and wife, Margaret, who were living in his mother's home (ELLEN), in the same town, and a short distance away from the Coughlin household. A son of James Coughlin was listed as 9months, with Ellen list ed as 6m... perhaps she was just being "babysat" by James' wife, Catherine?

From Boston VR: Ellen Elizabeth Handspiker - b. Boston 01-Jan-1880, at 2 Dove? St., father John S. mother Margaret A.,
he was a piano polisher, b. Digby NS, Margaret b. Dorchester.

Listing of father born NS mother MA also works for John and Margaret being Ellen's parents.

Until proven otherwise, will place Ellen as their child in this database. With the provision that this is not a SOLID connection, but is one that is VERY likely.

The big question is, to WHOM is Ellen a "niece-in-law"???
If she is so related to James Coughlin, that WOULD make her a d/o John and Margaret, however, if she's a niece-in-law to Margaret Davern, it's a whole different connection! If that's even possible! As she was only 6 months in 1880, which was enum erated 7th day of June, 1880, that would put her born EARLY 1880! So, if a child of John and Margaret, she was most likely conceived out of wedlock. Will leave as is, for now.
