Notes: In LDS' IGI, lists Moses as born 1832, died 1852, same parents.
Notes: Wondering if this is the Ellen listed in 1900 US Census for Boston, with Margeret (daughter-in-law?) and her 2nd husband, Franklin Porter? It makes sense, at least all but her 1840 birth year. Hard to be married at 11, but by 1900, memories fade ... maybe 1830 was correct, but really DOUBT 1840. See notes on Margeret, mother of Martha and Mabel C. Handspiker. Another record shows "Ellen (Gaynor) Handspiker, died Boston, 1905". Ellen was Roman Catholic. Now, why I have that information, and/or what significance it has, well... is beyond me. Maybe Moses was NOT Catholic? Something of a barrier-breaking couple? Has also been seen listed as Ellen Ganey. She appears with children Norah, John, Martha and Margaret in the 1880 US Census for Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts., though listed as aged 53. and head of household. Moses having passed prior?? Here's the listing: Ellen HANDSPIKER Self W Female W 53 IRELAND Keeping House IRELAND IRELAND Norah HANDSPIKER Dau S Female W 27 NOVA SCOTIA At Home N. S. IRELAND John HANDSPIKER Son M Male W 25 NOVA SCOTIA Polisher In Piano Factory N. S IRELAND Martha HANDSPIKER Dau S Female W 21 NOVA SCOTIA At Home N. S IRELAND Margaret HANDSPIKER DauL M Female W 17 MASSACHUSETTS Keeping House IRELAND IRELAND Norah is also listed in 1870 Census, working as a servant in another household. In 1878 Directory of Boston, we find Mrs. Ellen (widow) and her son, John, residing at 284 Blue Hill Ave. John's occupation was listed simply as "polisher". In 1892/3 Directory of Boston, Ellen is listed as "widow of Moses", house at 42 Dacia . In 1904 Directory, her death listing. "Widow of Moses, died Aug 27 '03" Will list her death as "Boston", but need to dig a bit deeper and may end up getting more specifics from her D.C. Residence in Boston, for Ellen in 1878 was 284 Blue Hill Ave. John, polisher, her son, resided with her at that time. As Ellen was listed as "Mrs. Ellen" believe Moses died prior to 1880.
