Notes: , could have easily come from two fairly geographically separated colonial regions. Of course, I've also seen indications that both Sarah and Asa were born @1760, Woburn, MA... Likely best to stop with their family, than try and untangle thei r POSSIBLE ancestries, at least for now (2006). I'd not find myself surprised if this Porter line could be proven back to William Porter, who marryed Lydia Batchelder on 05-Jul-1733, at Salem, Massachusetts. Two of their sons were Asa and Ebenezer, and likely they were Loyalists who fough t in the American Revolution. Both were born around 1740, most likely in Beverly. I BELIEVE the Asa b. 1740 in Woburn could have been son of Asa b. 03-Jul-1740, Beverly, MA, but was that Asa the father of Asa who married Sarah Marr? Surely he' s not of the same generation, despite some researchers' claims. IF William proves to be an ancestor, here is how his and Lydia's children are listed: 1. Asahel or Ashel Porter b. ???? could even have been the first Asa's full name?? 2. Asa Porter, b. 03-Jul-1740, Beverly, MA (first of the many Asas) Is this THIS Asa's father? Or was he son of Ebenezer? 3. Ebenezer Porter, b. 26-Dec-1742, Beverly, MA (first of the many Ebenezers) 4. Lydia Porter, b. 26-Dec-1742, Woburn, MA (this indicates either twins, or someone using baptismal dates for DOBs) 5. Elizabeth Porter, b. 12-Jun-1748, Beverly, MA 6. William Porter, b. 21-Apr-1751, Beverly, MA 7. Jonathan Porter, b. 14-Oct-1753, Beverly, MA 8. Anna Porter, b. 15-Jul-1757, Wenham, MA (again fairly close, but Woburn is a bit of a poke) Two other children often linked to this couple (Asa Porter and Sarah Marr) are Colin Campbell Porter, b. @1808, and Owen Gordon Porter (NFI). For the sake of continuity, I am listing them as such, as they do not seem to fit into any other Porte r line, and only two lines existed in Digby County at the time. Appears in the Hatfield Grant of 1801, receiving 200 acres. There were also a couple of Ebenezer Porters who are likely related to Asa, a Sr. and Jr., though at least the Jr. ended up in Yarmouth County, sometime between 1800-1820. There's another researcher who shows an Asa Porter b. 06-Jun-1767, Waterbury, New Haven Co, CT, USA, s/o Asa Porter (b. 07-Aug-1743, Waterbury, CT, and Deborah Tuller. Sarah (Marr) Porter b. @1760 at Woburn, MA, died in 1844 at Digby, NS, Canada Esther Jane Doty b. 14-Nov-1825, d. 15-Apr-1895, d/o Samuel Doty and Lydia Savery, married Asa Porter (II? III?) on 19-Jul-1855. What I found interesting is that Samuel's MOTHER was Hephzibah PORTER!!! See below, as this gets a bit confusing... . unless Samuel's mother MARRIED a Samuel DOTY, b. 1759, Westchester, NY, around 1813 in Weymouth, Digby. Which WOULD fit, but wondering if Samuels are off a generation? SOMEONE has indicated that Asa Porter who married Sarah Marr in 1792, with the same years... b. 1760 Woburn, d. 1844, Digby... VERY unlikey both Sarah and Asa had such identical Vital Records. THAT researcher indicates Asa who marr. Sarah MARR wa s son of Josiah Porter and Sarah Bradstreet. That Josiah was s/o William POrter and Mary Batchelder, and Sarah Bradstreet was d/o J. Bradstreet and Sarah Wheeler. I tend to go with birthdate for Asa of 1765-1770 and for Sarah of 1769-1771, based on accumulative dates from various researchers/records. WOW, another researcher shows Sarah Marr Porter as Sarah O. Porter, and marrying on 25-Jun-1817 to a James Stanley Wright. Hmmm... gotta love common names!!!! Now, on to Ebenezer! It would appear, Ebenezer SENIOR was born 26-Dec-1742, Beverly, MA, USA, and died 1807, Clare, Annapolis, NS (right next to Digby (Clare is that area, along with Bear River, that seems to be in both counties, depending on timeframe). HE was also son of William Porter and Lydia Batchelder! INTERESTING!!!! This is all SORT OF coming together, right???? :-) Ebenezer (b. 1742) married Sarah Raymond, b. 03-Oct-1740, Beverly, MA, and had: Hephzibah Porter (hmm), (fem.) b. 1764, Beverly, MA Ebenezer Porter (Jr.), b. 1768 Hannah Porter, b. @1774 (prob. 1773), Salem, MA (very close to Beverly) Sarah Porter, b. 30-Jun-1774, Salem, MA (some records indicate Hannah and Sarah MAY have been twins) Ebenezer Junior ends up in Yarmouth, NS. Ebenezer, b. 1768, son of Ebenezer b. 1742, married Mary (Porter) in 1795?, and died 11-Jul-1864, Little River, YARMOUTH, NS. So, not sure which Little River is the one mentioned prior. Another Ebenezer, b. 1742, was b. CT, s/o Ebenezer and Anna Porter, but he died 1800 in Vermont, so not same. The Ebenezer C. Porter of previous mention is likely Ebenezer Corning Porter (Yarmouth), b. 1821, s/o James Porter). The Hephzibah Porter who married Samuel P. DOty, @1786, was likely the grandmother of Esther Jane Doty, and a daughter of Ebenezer b. 1742, and his wife, Sarah Raymond. FYI, along with Ebenezer, a Nehemiah Porter shows up in early Yarmouth Co records. It DOES look like Ebenezer started off in Digby County, and moved to Yarmouth afterwards. 1801 records indicate an Ebenezer in Digby, whereas by 1827, seems he'd moved (or his son had moved) to Yarmouth.
Notes: At least one researcher claims Sarah died on 27-Jul-1800, by drowning. If so, then surely Colin and Owen could not be HER children. Doesn't mean they couldn't be Asa's.
