Notes: Based on ONLY Digby GenWeb census indexes (which is not apparent when searching other indexes), John had another son, Charles, who married Mary A. ?, and they SEEM to have been lised as 32 and 26, respectively in the 1881 Canada Census. Interesti ngly enough, at LDS site, this family appears in Freeport, whereas they're listed in Culloden on another site. They're surely in Digby County! Charles and Mary A. are also listed in Freeport at LDS site, but not in the same household.
Of note, in 1871 Census, a Sophia Outhouse age 10, is also listed with John and family. Not old enough to be a domestic, but may be a relation, which may help identify Susannah's family, if Sophia is from her side.
Quite likely the same John Campbell who appears head of a household of 6 in 1838 Census for Long Island, Digby. Listed as "fisherman". Also of note, regarding above on Sophia... many Outhouse families on Long Island. He is listed with a wife an d four very young children (possibly these children had grown and left household by 1871).
Though not necessarily direct relations, there are two other HofH Campbells listed in 1838 Census, residing in Digby Town... Colin (esquire) a Merchant and Samuel (esquire) working for Her Majesty's Customs.
Listed in 1861 Long Island, Digby Census in household of 4 males and 3 females.
IF John is a son of Colin Campbell, there are a NUMBER of that name in both NS and NB around the right time. The most likely "suspect" would be:
"Colin Campbell, b. 30 Jul 1752, Inverary, Scotland; d. 26 Jul 1834, Sissiboo (sic), Annapolis Co., NS (now Digby) aged 83 yrs. He m. 1) [--?--]; m.2) Letitia [---], d. 26 May 1832, aged 74 yrs, Cornwallis, NS."
There is further information listed as for the above Colin, but it is a tad too close to information on other Colins on that same webpage, so am not going to list that, at this time. The above serves mostly as a holding place should John's ancest ry include THIS Colin. (Jan-2004).
