Notes: PLACEMARKER ONLY: (Note - is this a son of John and Eva or, was Eva a first wife and Rachel a second wife?) Another note of interest regarding John. Or, perhaps, a son of his named John??? There is record of a marriage between a John "Houselbekk er" and a Rachel Traphagen, on 22-Nov-1795 at Kakiat, New Jersey. Married by George G. Brinkerhoff. Brinkerhoff, licensed in 1788 of Hempstead in 1800, was the "Dominie" at the Kakiat/Kekeat and Ramapo, from 1793 - 18??. In pre-1790 NJ Census , I found three Traphagens: Jonathan (in Hackensack), Johannes (also in Hackensack) and David (in Bedminster, Somerset County). I have no way of knowing which John H'packer this was, who married Rachel. Further research in the area is required . Though listed as son of John and Eva?, he may in fact be the same John who married Eva, and Rachel was a 2nd wife? I DO believe, however, he is one OR the other and not some new branch of the family.

LDS lists (w/o parents) a Henry Packer, b. 28-Jun-1798, Guilford, Chenango Co, NY, but nothing close b. NJ.

1830 US Census for Saddle River in Bergen County lists a William Packer, aged 70-80, a Conrad Packer, aged 60-70. Franklin township has a John Packer and a Philip Packer, same age (60-70)

1840, still in Franklin, John Packer aged 70-80, listed as John Packer, JR! This John Jr., in 1841 Pension rolls, listed as age 79, which would put his year of birth in the 1762 timeframe. IF this John Packer, Jr. is descended of the Hanselbecke r line, he was likely born to Johannes, but more likely the younger one, whose will is on file. SOOOO, perhaps HE was the one who married Rachel Traphagen????

There are also a John and Philip in Franklin of a younger generation.

Have included picture of Packer House with this John... Though hard to say. However, of note in the picture, the small, left-hand side of the house is the section originally built in the EARLY 1700s, with the original Main House being build in th e latter half of the 18th Century.

Notes: Some sources list a Rachel T. b. about 1780, marrying a John Packers, which may or may not be the right one. HER parents were Hendrick T. and Margriete Wanamaker. Both of Bergen County.

I also have a Rachel Traphage, b. 11 Dec 1775, bapt. 31 Dec 1775 at the Paramus RDC. Her parents are listed as Jonathan and Trientje. It is either this one, or the daughter of Hendrick and Margriete, who married John "Houselbekker" in 1795. Base d on the "Packers" name, it's tempting to "pick" the daughter of Hendrick. However, if she was truly born in 1780, the chances are better for the daughter of Jonathan and Trientje, as she would have been closer to 20. Not a "cincher" by ANY means . Need some facts regarding children, by whose naming we may be able to determine the right combinations of couples vs. parents.

One Rachel (dau. of James b. 1782, Ulster County, NY) also married Peter Roos (at , having Jacob Wirte Roos in 1814 and Margret Maria Roos in 1817, in Saddle River. They were not MARRIED, however, in Saddle River (at least not listed in same rec ords).

IF the Rachel who married John was b. 1770s, she is UNLIKELY the same Rachel Traphagen who married on 21-Jul-1786 at Bergen County, to John VanWaggoner, also of Bergen County, NJ. (this record found in online NJ Archives database of marriaged fro m 1666 to 1799)
