  • Name: Hannah Yetta Mastin Burpee Jordan
  • Birth: 1829 in: New Brunswick, Canada
  • Death: 13-DEC-1936 in: Sunbury County, New Brunswick, Canada
  • Father: William Jordan
  • Mother: Elizabeth Hanselpacker

Notes: Some other sources indicate a year of death as 1903 in Burton, Sunbury Co, NB. In the rootsweb listing of ALL the burials in Pine Grove cemetery, her marker indicated Widow of Rufus M. and years were 1829 to 1936!

As she was SURELY alive in 1911, perhaps the year should be 1913 vice 1903? I'm not sure I'm content with 1936, myself, but that, so far, is the only other date I've ever seen associated with a death date for Hannah.

2nd daughter. Claimed, at one point in time, to be 112 years of age. She was surely OLD, when she died, as is indicated by her birth and death years. A bluenose of superior stock! She surely lied about her age in the 1861 Census. The followin g is offered by Marcia Foulger, as evidence of what sort of woman Hannah was, told often in family gatherings:

"Hannah's youngest daughter was three months old when Rufus died, and the legends of the hard times that followed are many. She midwifed, nursed, made barn brooms, knit underwear, mitts and stockings, as well as maintaining a garden, two pigs , a cow, and hens. She was considered 'fierce', rather like 'she-who-MUST-be-obeyed'."

Surely a character founded within the wondrous variety of genetics of the Hanselpacker Clan!
