Notes: Witnesses to marriage were Charles McAlpine and George Smith - same date as Philip H. and Mary Slipp. In the 1871 Lovell Directory, William is listed as a Farmer in Douglas Harbor community of Canning Parish, Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada . Listed, possibly twice in 1865-66 directory. As Farmer in both instances. Once in Scotchtown and once in Douglas Harbor, Grand Lake. This is likely due to the proximity of the two towns. Same for David N. Hanselpacker and George W. H.. Also , this could be the same as listed born about 1810, and living in Wicklow Parish in the 1851 Federal Census, listed, also as a Farmer. It appears a William HanselPECKER married an Amelia Eliza Tirrel or Ferrill (both of Sheffield IN Sheffield Parish, on 2-Jan-1837) Interestingly enough, the signature seems to have been that of Permelia Terrill, which is not a VERY common give n name, but is the same given name of Permelia MacDonald, who appears as witness on marriages with William. In fact, they were witnesses to the marriage of David Fulton and Catherine Hanselpacker. IS it the same William? Hard to say, as Mary An n is listed as 60 in the 1871 Census, so that would be most unusual. 29-Jan-1843, probably the same William, married a Hannah Burke... hmm! See Sheffield Wesleyan Methodist Marriages 1835-1906 at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~nbpast/Church/w-m eth-m.htm It may very well be that William had three wives. Though, that just doesn't explain the 1871 Census. The better explanation is ANOTHER William, of approx. the same generation, marrying the other two women. Following found in 1881 Census for York County, New Brunswick, Canada: Page 14, St. Mary’s Parish, Division 1, 1881 25 70 Hanselpecker, William M 72 Page 15, St. Mary’s Parish, Division 1, 1881 1 Hansellpecker,Mary Ann F 68 In the 1861 Census for Cambridge Parish, Queens County, we find William's family, like his brother David's, listed as a "Hansel" (no "Packer"). The ONLY one listed as a Hanselpacker was Philip! Here's the 1861 Census for Canning Parish, Queens Co, NB: 129 William Hansel 57 Nat Pres Mary A 51 Julia B 29 George W 24 John N 20 Annie M 17 Henry E 15 Catherine 12 Amelia 9 Also of note, a William Hanselpacker (perhaps one of the ones that married one of the "three wives" is found in Maine, USA for the 1860 US Census, at "letter b, range 1" in Aroostook County. This is the county right across the border from NB , as another, George, b. 1855, appears in 1880 US Census for Houlton, Aroostook Co, as well.
Notes: h her GRANDSON, Harry Pickard, when her death occurred. She was in her 81st year, at date of death, which also points more to Mary Ann than Eleanor (her daughter and WIFE of James Pickard). However, since no first name was given, there's alway s the possibility that Mary Ann DID die in 1884, and that James Pickard's mother (whatever HER name was) married his own father-in-law??? I've surely seen stranger connections! If mother-in-law assumption is correct, then DOD is 1891, not 1884, which is DOD of William, so possibly a mixup in that regard.
