Notes: Not so sure Stephen would have been born in Digby if born in 1779. The chances are, his family, like most, arrived in 1783/84 timeframe. Much digging needed on this line's early men. Very good chance, though, that THIS Stephen is the one mentioned in an 1834 correspondence in Elgin County, Ontario, as follows: DESC[ Correspondence and Documents Concerning the Following Subjects: Record 15 - Petition to Mahlon Burwell; states that the grist mill of James Merrill is situated near the centre of Lot 34, Concession 1, Malahide and that there is no road leading to it; asks Burwell to lay out the road mentioned in Record 14; dated at Bayham, June 24, 1834; signed by Jacob Weaver, Samuel Arnold, George Bain, James McIntyre, Joseph McConnell, Socrates Hunter, Joseph Frazer, Anthony Seelea, James Van Emburgh, Steven Fletcher; Moses Edison, John Edison, Sidney McDermand, David McConnell, Thomas Heath or Keith, James Fitzgerald, Alexander Watt, Charles Nertrup?, David Sibley, John Bughner?, Peter Weaver, William Northrup, Edward Griffin, John Struck or Strick, Stephen Arnold Some connected names: Samuel Arnold, George Bain, Alexander Watt, and others.
