Notes: A.K.A. Alfred James Handspiker. Curiosity.. Elizabeth M. Winchester... Elizabeth May Milbury.... Hmmm!!! Pick one! I've listed all children under Elizabeth Milbury, until such time as I can clarify what the real deal is, here. James is listed as 29 in the 1881 Census for Digb y County... that is a bit off from other records. Could be someone else provided the age to the census taker? That would put his birthyear between 1851 and 1852. Yet, the "same" James, appears in the 1891 Census with 2nd wife, "Lizzie" and family , listed as being 42. Is it possible, even likely, that the James, son of Jesse and Bertha, was NOT the same who married Elizabeth May Milbury? If so, where DID this other James come from? I have accounted for all James Handspikers of that peri od, by census, and the only other one not counted is the one who died young, in 1870. James is listed as Alfred Handspiker in the 1901 Culloden Census. His marker is also for Alfred J. as opposed to James A. 1911 Culloden Census: 29 62 Handspiker Alfred M Head M Sep 1848 63 1901 30 62 Handspiker Elizabeth F Wife M Mar 1865 46 1901 31 62 Handspiker Laura F Daughter S Feb 1888 23 1901 32 62 Handspiker Dora F Daughter S Apr 1893 18 1901 33 62 Handspiker Edison M Son S Apr 1899 12 1901 Dora (IF same) is listed in very next household, as wife of "Ensley" (Ainsley) Handspiker. Are there two? Or, is she just married, so listed twice?
Notes: Married less than three years before she died in 1885. The obit in the Courier date 8-May-1885, read as follows: "At Mount Pleasant on the 18th., Lizzie M. Handspiker, beloved wife of Mr. James A. Handspiker in the 26th. year of her life." This leads me to believe she died on the 18th of April, not May.
