Notes:
Notes: This woman has several possible spellings of her name. The most popular is Ferebee Fanning. The daughter of Col. Fanning, to be sure. As the surname "Ferebee" is an old Norfolk, VA famil name, I suspect she never was a "Phebe", but rather, her gi ven name was that of this surname. Some accounts have her marrying Peter Hanselpiker and living in NB, but, having children in NS. These often show Peter as born in Germany, yet this is HIGHLY unlikely. Though Phebe/Ferebee may have been BOR N in NB, her married life was spent with Peter in Nova Scotia. The possibility of her Peter being of the NB or NS line, is possibly one for debate. Though, by most accounts, Peter of NB was son to Phillip, and born in 1774, whereas son of Conra d was born between 1780-1790, so a much more likely possibility. Also, considering the life in Nova Scotia, more likely Conrad's than Philip's son married Phebe/Ferebee Finning/Fanning. Also seen as Farreby. 6-Jul-1877, was date of Ferebee's will. Whether that was the date written or the date proven, is yet to be determined. Suffice it to say, she does not appear in the 1881 Census. 1992 inventory of gravemarkers in Digby County, shows "Ferrabah" as being buried in Forest Hill/Trinity Cemetery, rather than the Broad Cove Cemetery, as indicated in this record. Need to verify correct resting place. She appears in the LDS' IGI, mother of John Simeon Handspiker, as Phebe Van Tassell Fanning.
