Notes: Found in 1930 US Census, as Bert G. Hanselpaker, at age 29, residing in Englewood Township, Bergen County, New Jersey, USA. He MAY be connected to any of three families that were in Massachusetts and New England, around that time. He was singl e in 1930 Census, living as a "roomer" at 30 Oakland Street in Englewood. (District 59, page 8). Father listed as born in "English Canada" and mother in Massachusetts. His occupation listed as Teacher - Public Schools. SUSPECT he MAY be connec ted to those using the same spelling in St John, New Brunswick, and/or the James Harvey Hanselpacker who fought in American Civil War, lived in New Hampshire. Most likely connected to that or those sides. Or, the Charles, also fought in Civil War . Or, the David and Thomas Hanselpakers of St John, or the Harry Hanselpaker who died at sea off Cape Cod.

They are all Hanselpackers whose names were either misspelled or, they chose to change them for one reason or another (a la Hanselparkers who became Hansels, or Handspikers who became Handspickers!).

Hmmm... from School Yearbooks...

Bert Gardner Hansalpakar, Englewood School, KC, (MO), 1956 yearbook. He taught Sixth Grade, resided 168 Euclid Avenue, Hackensack, NJ, attended BU, Columbia, and NJ Normal School.
Entered Englewood School in 1942, director of Lower School Dramatics Club, and Music Appreciation Advisor.

He was surely an artist, and a painting by him recently (Mar-2006) sold on eBay. As he is of limited fame, I believe it went for @ $80.00. Here's the description of the item:

"On the back of this original hand painted Oil Painting is a label that says this is an original painting by Bert Hansalpakar of the Art Associate, New York City. Measuring 10 by 14 it comes in its original 14 by 18 classic 1950s Frame. Th e painting could use a light cleaning to bring out the original artists colors of this winter farm scene, but thats it, there are no damages and there are no repairs. There is a very low reserve to make sure this original Impressionistic Oil Pai nting sells. I was lucky this week find fresh to the market paintings to list on eBay."

I have contacted both seller and buyer about the possibility of getting a picture of the painting. We'll see! (Sep-2006).

1920 US Census for Morris, NJ:
Bert G. Hansalpakar was boarding with William H. Hogg family. Occupation - teacher.
