In 1930 US Census for Gloucester City, Essex, Massachusetts (Enum. 10-Apr-1930, Enum. Dist. 5-43, Supervisor Dist. 7, Sheet 7B Lodgers at the home of Annie Briant on 33 Rogers Street (along with a Hank Hamm) were:
1) Frank Handspiker - M. age 41, Widower, b. Can FA: Can MO: Can Listed as a resident alien, arriving in US in 1912, a Fisherman
2) Alvin Handspiker - M. age 10, Single, b. MA, FA: Can MO: MA
Suspect Alvin to have been Frank's son. At a minimum, a close relation. Need to find record of marriage of Frank, possibly using B.Cert. search for Alvin, b. @ 1920 in Massachusetts... likely in Gloucester!. Bear in mind, Prentha Augusta Handspi ker Rowe and family were also of Gloucester. Prentha and Frank WERE 2nd cousins, after all!

If he was SINGLE in 1917, widowed by 1930, with a son b. 1920, then suspect married 1917-1920 to mother of Alvin... but Elvena definitely a later marriage, as evidence in Maine Marriage Index - 1942.
NOTE: Above is son of Alphaeus and Emma, as he appears with family in Tiverton Census of 1901. There, b.d. is
listed same day/month, but 1890. Therefore, could be Frank H. Handspiker, vice Frank U.?? It would also seem, based on location, that this is the same Frank who was listed in Gloucester in 1930 US Census, and father of Alvin.
The Frank in Gloucester is also found in Gloucester Directory for 1929-30, fisherman, res. 63 Main Street.
As expected, he's found in 1942 directory of Portland, ME, listed as a fisherman, married to Elvena, and residing at #7 Fore Street.
