Notes: Ensign in the Rev. War. Lived at and is buried in Queenstown. John, along with sons; William, John and James, were soldiers and promoters of the Provincial Militia. William fought in the War of 1812. John and James were twins, and locate d at Lower Cambridge. The land on which the Baptist Church in Lower Cambridge sits was donated by the Colwells.

From Brian Ballard's notes:

"Lt John Colwell, a native of Scotland, who, going to Ireland, there joined the British Army for servicein American in the Revolutionary War. During the progress of that struggle, Lt Colwell was wounded in the forehead by a musket ball, which lod ged in his head and could not be extracted. A silver tube or plate was inserted in the wound by surgeons in such a mannter that the wound was invisible and he carried it to the end of his days. Another account has him being born in the America n Colonies."
