Notes: MAY also be father of George A. Welch, listed in West Isles in 1901 Census as follows: 35 87 Welch George A. M Head M May 14 1838 62 36 87 Welch Mary J. F Wife M Nov 24 1848 52 He was neighbor to both William Kay, John Welch (b. 1828), and Thomas E Welch (b. 1835) A Charlotte County Land Petition filed in 1812, is PERHAPS this Thomas, but just as likely his father, contained the following names: . ADAMS, STURGIS . ADAMS, THOMAS . ALLABY, ISAAC . BUTLER, DAVID . CARD, HENRY . CLERK, OBADIAH . COLEMAN, DAVID . COLEMAN, JOHN . CONLY, JOSEPH . COOK, JAMES . DEAN, GIDEON . DEAN, HENRY . DEER ISLAND INHABITANTS, ----- . DOUTY, JAMES . DOUTY, JOSEPH . FLINN, PATRICK ***** . GARDANE, DANIEL . HOOPER, ABIGAIL . HOOPER, JOHN . HOOPER, WILLIAM . JOHNSTON, GERHARDUS . LAMBERT, DANIEL . LAMBERT, EDMUND . LAMBERT, JOHN . LAMBERT, MATTHEW . LEEMAN, DANIEL . LOGAN, ROBERT . MILLS, ELNATHAN . PENDLETON, GIDEON . RUSSELL, JOHN ***** . STUART, E. . STUART, WILLIAM . WELCH, THOMAS ****** . WELCH, WILLIAM ****** On 21-Jul-1809, at Wakefield, York Co, NB, land grant for 88 men for 210 acres, included the names of Thomas, William, and John Welch. If related to those of the name who settled in Charlotte County, then any of the three could be father of thi s Thomas. The JUNE Fleet of 1783, left Sandy Hook on 16 Jun 1783 and arrived St. John (NB) on the 28th, six weeks after the coming of the "Spring Fleet" so often recalled. In effect, there were several "waves" of these fleets during mid to late 1783 and ea rly to mid 1784, as the population grew and grew with each UEL wave. Among the 16 June fleet, was a Thomas Welch, listed as a company commander, though I've yet to determine exactly WHICH company. Is THIS Thomas Welch the father or even grandfather of the Thomas Welch b. in NB in 1793? Possibly, though without fu rther confirmation than a common name, hardly likely to "hold water," as it were.
