Notes: Note from Craig Sale: The SLOOT family originated in Holland. They eventually settled in what is now New York. It is suspected that Benjamin SLOOT is a descendant of Jan Jansen SLOT, son of Jan Pieterson SLOT, who came to New Amsterdam in 1650. Th is line of the family moved up the east side of the Hudson River to Dutchess County. The church records from that area are slim. Peter SLOT, second son of Jan Pieterson SLOT moved up the west side of the Hudson and sided with the revolutionaries . Those in Dutchess County fought on the side of the British and had to leave the colonies at the end of the war in 1783.
