Notes: VERY likely it was Earle who was listed in a 1923 St John, NB directory as follows:
Hanselpacker, E., janitor, G E Barbour Co, Ltd, h. 57 Union (the others listed are his father and uncle, so this makes it QUITE likely the "E" is Earle).

Was living in Washington state, when, on 7-Aug-1943, he applied for his SSAN. SSN 532-24-0775. At the time, he was 53 years of age, living at 3410 Cascadia in Seattle, Washington, USA.

EARLE CUTHBERT HANSELPACKER (M), LEGGET S. HANSELPACKER, AGNES MCCORMACK, 19 January 1890, SAINT JOHN, SJ

----------------------------
From Barbara Ratcliff (Seattle, WA):

1929 Seattle City Directory:
Hanselpacker E C & Co (E C Hanselpacker) mfrs agts 721 Virginia
Hanselpacker Earle C (Elma L) (E C Hanselpacker & Co) h3410 Cascadia av

1938 Seattle City Directory:
Hanselpacker Earl C (Alma) mfrs agt 92 Battery h3410 Cascadia av

1942 Seattle City Directory:
Hanselpacker E C Co (Earle C Hanselpacker) bldg matls 92 Battery
Hanselpacker Earle C (Elma) (E C Hanselpacker Co) h3410 Cascadia ave

(In the Classified Business Directory section of the 1942 Seattle City
Directory, E C Hanselpacker Co at 92 Battery is listed under the classification:
Building Materials and Supplies. He is not listed under that classification
in the 1938 Seattle City Directory.)

A more complete list from Jean Strand, also of Seattle:

Earle C. Hanselpacker was a bookkeeper, a manufacturers' agent and had his own building materials business and was not a lawyer.

There seem to be no children of this couple.

1923
Earl C. (Elma) Hanselpacker accountant 902 Lowman Bldg. res. 626 13th Ave. N. (NOTE: THIS makes the 1923 St John Directory listing less likely. Especially since he was listed, as well, in 1920.

1924
Earl C. (Elna) Hanselpacker accountant 705 Arctic Bldg. res. 1234 19th Ave. N.

1926

E.C. Hanselpacker and Co. building materials 92 Battery

The next available directory she has is 1981, and they do not appear in that one.
-------------------------------------

Given the above, he was married to an Elma, Elna, Elinea or Alma, as the residential listings include that name. Since he was born 1890, and was married before 1920, one might assume he was married before he appears in Seattle area?

Still curious about Eugene, Oregon, since he died there in 1965, but was obviously still a resident of Seattle. Perhaps, he was at a hospital, there.

NOTE: I have had NO luck finding this couple in 1920 or 1930 US Census records for Washington OR Oregon!

  • Birth:

  • Father:
  • Mother:

Notes: Seen also as "Alma", "Elna" and "Elinea". Though one researcher believes that Elinea is the full name and Elna a "nick" for that name, I have found only 7 Elineas listed in a worldwide database, whereas Elna is a very common Swedish given name , with over 6,000 entries. Given the geographical distribution of immigrant Swedes, and given the number of times the name appears as Elna in the directories, vice Elinea, I feel 90 percent sure the name is/was Elna.
