Notes: DOBs: 1-Dec-1870 from 1901 Census - Truro, Nov-1868, 1911, Truro - this is SURELY father of John. Problem with family listed in 1901/1911, now. Although Jane is close enough to June, and dates similar, did Edith die before 1911, if so, okay, an d Chester enumerated as a dau. vice a son, surely. Again, this Truro bunch offers nothing easy to any researcher!

Suspect, based on family input, that Edward may not have been "T" but "J" for John. According to family, there were three John generations, John, then "Jack", then Jackie (who died in Korean War).

Edward was SURELY married twice, possibly even three times, if Annie and Sarah are not the same person (hard to determine). Originally had separated Edward into two Edwards, with one born 1867 and the other born 1870, but each one's enumeratio n (one in 1901 and the other in 1911) indicated this man was the same man, simply enumerated with different birthdays and a different wife. Only after realizing that the children were too close in matching, and that the limited geographic area me ant a serious unlikelihood that TWO Edwards were living within it made it a clear call to "merge" the two men into one listing.

POSSIBLE children or relations of Edward and Flora found in Truro records are as follows:

In death records, provided by J.C.B. Olive, Funeral Director and Embalmer, Truro, Colchester County, Nova Scotia, Canada lists -
1. Alexander Handspiker d. 22-Apr-1905 (aged 20) - brother
2. Chester Handspiker d. 27-Aug-1901 (aged 9 months)
3. Stephen Handspiker d. 2-Oct-1910 (aged 4 months - not a candidate for a child of Flora, at least)
4. Effie Handspiker d 18-Mar-1900 (aged 1 year)

In 1907 "Directory" of Truro, are found the following entries:

1. Edward Handspiker - Carpenter - on Douglas (St, Rd, or Ave?)
2. Henry Handspiker - Employee at Lee's Livery - a boarder on Young Street
3. Stephen Handspiker - Boilermaker - residing on Young Street

This indicates that Henry may have been a brother to Stephen, as he is shown as a boarder, and most likely IN Stephen's home on Young Street. In mentioning Stephen, let us not forget the complexity of this family and its odd "interaction" with th e Edwin Bartlett Handspiker family.

I also have recorded, from a since forgotten source, that Flora and Edward T. are buried in Salmon River, Nova Scotia, Canada. This is not exactly CLOSE to Truro! Interesting group, this Truro bunch. Much work needs to be done on this "undiscove red" line.

Notes: Found a Donald Mackay married to an Effie Morrison in Sydney, Cape Breton, but the date is listed as 1872, and no children with that source. However, if correct, Donald parents were Neil Mackay/McKay b.1808 and Sarah McKinnon b. 1808 in Isl e of Rum, Scotland. However, it looks more like Donald Mackay and Effie MacKinnon (odd!) were Flora's parents. Though, this family "sports" not only a Flora, but a Flora Belle Mackay, who is listed as marrying a Mr. Pearson. I would rate th e ancestry of Flora, listed here, as "unconfirmable".

Difficult to say which Flora... Flora or Flora Bell/Florabell was married to Edward. They were only a couple of years apart, which gives reason to all the confusion when listing Flora's birthdate. As indicated in the 1881 Census, there WERE tw o Floras! That said, it begs the question if both were children of Donald and Effie, or, if one might have been "adopted" from a siblings family or otherwise adopted?
