Notes: Birthdates for John Fred Amirault (a.k.a. Fred Amero) are taken from the 1901, Plympton, Digby County, NS, Can. Census, as are his wife Abbie's and listed children (with the exception of Mary Edith, who was not yet born. Following is his obit, an d am only assuming it's from the Digby Courier, as no source listed: FREDERICK AMERO Thursday May 17 1956 Frederick Amero of Mount Pleasant , passed away on May 6th. at the Digby General Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Amero was 86 at the time of his death. He is survived by two sons Fred Amero Jr. of Barton , William Amero of marshalltown an d by three daughters Edith Handspiker, Mount Pleasant ; Eva Gavel Centerville; and Mary Jornson , Mount Pleasant. Funeral service was held at the Roman Catholic Church in Plympton at two O'clock , May 9 th. The body rested at the Ramsay Funera l Home prior to the funeral service. Interment was in Plympton. The listing of Mary Jornson as daughter to John, makes me wonder why Edith is listed as "Mary Edith", since this indicates there were two children, a Mary AND an Edith. Need to clarify. "The whole family were nicknamed Barnes, which was the maiden name of Fred Amero's mum. So many Ameros in town, many people had nicknames to differentiate. So the kids were called Barnes, even though Ameros." - Sue Amero
Notes: Marie Elizabeth Abbie Saulnier, by some family records. Listed simply as "Lizzie" in 1901 Census of Plympton, Digby County, NS, Can. Listed as "Abbie" (age 23) in 1891 Census with husband, "Fred Amero" (21), daughter Florence (1) and "domestic " Teresa Sonier (Saulnier) age 18.
