Notes: POSSIBLY (bit of a longshot, here), the son of George Hersey and Melvina ?, who appears in 1871-1891 Censuses in that family, as 9, 17 and 26, respectively, which doesn't help place his birth year too closely, but a range of 1862-1865, which woul d work in terms of age range, when marrying Susan/Elizabeth. If such is the case, then we know Samuel and Susan/Elizabeth did not marry until after 1891, and were no longer married by 1899. For Certain, he was brother of E. Letitia Hersey, grandmother of Wally Tidd (from his own records).
Notes: May also be seen as "Elizabeth Susan". Though no Susan or Elizabeth appears in Census records with Charles and Mariah (1871 and 1891) there is a marriage record to William, with the date of 12-Apr-1899, showing her parents as Charles and Mariah . This is not unbelievable, as she would have been around 18, come the 1891 Census, wasn't born for the 1871 Census and her parents don't even appear in the 1881 Census (at least not in Digby), so she could have been working/living somewhere othe r than with her parents. If she married Samuel, before the 1891 Census, she surely does not appear with him, if he's even IN the 1891 Census. She also does not appear in the strays index, and no Elizabeth OR Susan is found in any Tidd or Tibb-li ke surnamed family in the Digby 1891 Census records. The fact that Samuel's son Arthur was born (in 1883?) to Susan is SERIOUSLY in question. Her gravestone indicates she was born in 1873, which would fit with her Census absences. Samuel COULD have been married, prior, for a very short period of ti me? This whole Tidd conundrum is quite frustrating. 1901 Census for Culloden used to determine exact birth dates of Susan (as Lizzie) and her first three children.
