  • Name: Leander Woodworth

  • Death:

Notes: May want to explore the possibility of a relationship between Leander and Thomas O. Woodworth, b. 04-Feb-1841, d. 21-Dec-1913, buried Rossway Cemetery, Digby (listed with "Emerer", but not sure if other male, or Thomas' wife. Surely their daughte r,Frances, married Leslie Joseph MacKay (the plot is a Lewis/MacKay/Woodworth plot.

There's also an Evelyn Woodworth (a widow of a Mr. Woodworth in 1901 Rossway, b. 18 Mar/May 1837, so likely married to a brother of Leander's, unless another Woodworth group existed in Digby County at that time.

A Leander Woodworth appears in the 1901 Census of Culloden, Digby County, NS, Canada. He is listed as born 27-Feb-1836, with wife Carrie, b. 19-Apr-1854 There are daughters in the household listed as Susan (25), Dotty (13), and Bertha (11) Fleet , along with an Emdon (10) Fleet. Whether Carrie or Lucy is Emma's mother, remains to be determined. In 1911, Lucy listed as wife. Were these two different women?

1901 for Culloden, Digby, NS:
8 49 79 Woodworth Leander M Head M Feb 27 1836 65
8 50 79 Woodworth Carrie F Wife M Apr 19 1854 46
9 1 79 Fleet Susan F Daughter W Mar 1 1876 25
9 2 79 Fleet Dotty F Daughter S Mar 25 1888 13
9 3 79 Fleet Bertie F Daughter S Nov 28 1890 11
9 4 79 Fleet Embdon M Son S Nov 18 1891 10

1911 for same:
26 46 Woodworth Leander M Head M Jul 1840 70 1901 Oh my! What's the deal with LEANDER's birth date?
27 46 Woodworth Lucy F Wife M Apr 1854 57 1901
28 46 Fleet Dorothy F Granddaughter M Mar 1888 23 1901
29 46 Kidman Fritz M Grandson S Apr 1906 5 1901
30 46 Fleet Erndon M Grandson S Nov 1890 20 1901
31 46 Woodworth Ruben M Son S May 1889 22 (where was HE in 1901 Census?)

Here's something interesting. On another researchers GEDCOM appears "A. Leander Woodworth", b. 22-Feb-1840, Cornwallis, Kings Co, NS, s/o William Woodworth and Lucy Foster.

This seems to pair the D/M of 1838, with the Y, 1840, which, in 1911, indicated a July birth month.

Mmmmm...

Seems to me, they're one and the same person. Carrie Lucy or Lucy Carrie, will make sure to fix.

1881 Canada Census for Digby:

Leander WOODWORTH M Male English 40 Nova Scotia Carpenter Methodist Church of England
Lucy WOODWORTH M Female English 32 Nova Scotia Methodist Church of England
Emma WOODWORTH Female English 18 Nova Scotia Methodist Church of England
Susey WOODSWORTH Female English 13 Nova Scotia Methodist Church of England
Mary WOODWORTH Female English 5 Nova Scotia Methodist Church of England
Rueban HILL Male English 24 Nova Scotia Methodist Church of England

Wonder if the "Rueban" is one that Ruben WOODWORTH is named after? Also, seems some dates are a decade off!

Notes: Leander's wife in 1901 Culloden Census, is listed as Carrie, b. 19-Apr-1854. His wife in 1911 is listed as Lucy, b. Apr-1854. No reason NOT the believe they are not just plain one and the same person, just one time listed middle name (not at AL L uncommon in Digby!). In the 1901 Census, one gets the impression that the FLEET children are Carrie's kids, so likely she married a Mr. Fleet prior to Leander?
