Notes: LDS record indicates Albert died 6-Jan-1902 in Digby, and was burined on the 9th of January in Digby. Also, that he married 2nd or 1st, Thelma Mae White. Here's a VERY ODD Census record from 1901 Culloden, indicating a Handspiker connection (direct). Still unsure of how to handle these children, but will list as children of Elmina w/ a "Mr. Handspiker" for now. 23 97 Vantassel Albert M Head M Oct 28 1864 36 24 97 Handspiker Mina F Wife M Jul 25 1866 34 25 97 Vantassel Francis M F Daughter S Oct 15 1886 14 26 97 Handspiker Oscar M Son S Jul 25 1888 12 27 97 Handspiker Jeanis F Daughter S Jun 8 1888 11 28 97 Handspiker Alexander M Son S Sep 25 1891 9 29 97 Handspiker Alma F Daughter S Jul 12 1893 7 30 97 Handspiker Annabell F Daughter S Sep 12 1896 5 31 97 Handspiker Bessie M F Daughter S Jul 12 1897 3 32 97 Handspiker Anita F Daughter S Jul 28 1898 2 Oddly, Francis, b. 1886 (first born of those listed) is a VanTassel. Thos born 1888 and later are Handspikers. Perhaps, Francis was d/o a previous wife to Albert? 1891 Digby Census: VANTASSEL, Albert C - - 23m Almira - - 22m Francis - - 4 Oscar H. - - 2 Janie - - 8/12
Notes: DOB doesn't match well with 1881 Census, but Census data has also not been too consistent, so leaving full DOB in place. LDS Records indicate the Elmina who married Albert VanTassel was born 1857 at Broad Cove, Digby, died 1946, at Hallifax, buried 1946 at Digby. Parents Charles and Mary Stark. That she married, probably 2nd, to George Chandler (I have "Shambler"). In 1891 Census, was this Elmina the Almira married to Albert VanTassel? Or, what "Almira" his first wife, by whom he had Francis, Oscar, and Janie?
