Notes: Christened as Benedictum Franciscum Vantassel, on chr. record, parents listed as Henrici Vantassel and Maria Winslow. Said to have been born at "The Mountain", Digby (Mount Pleasant?). 1901 Canada census for Culloden, Digby Co, NS: 32 106 Vantassel Benidet M Head M Oct 9 1846 54 (not 27 in 1869, though) 33 106 Vantassel Mary F Wife S Jun 1851 49 (Mary Philomene Dugas? If so, not 25 in 1869!) 34 106 Vantassel Laleah F Daughter S Mar 3 1879 21 35 106 Vantassel Clara F Daughter S May 5 1880 20 36 106 Vantassel Gustave M Son S Apr 10 1883 18 37 106 Vantassel Ellen F Daughter S Nov 27 1885 15 38 106 Vantassel Martin M Son S Oct 20 1887 13 39 106 Vantassel Celestia F Daughter S Nov 28 1889 11 40 106 Vantassel Bibiana F Daughter S Aug 1 1891 9 Based on age, could the Mary in the 1901 Census have been a second wife? After all, the Mary listed in 1891 and 1901 census records is 13 years younger than the Mary listed in 1871 Census with Benedict. In Digby Census records, family of Benedict as follows: Benedict, b. @1847, Mary @1845 (b. Ireland), Harry, Sep-1870, Laliah @1880, Anne C., @1882, Benedict G., @1883, Ellen L., @1886, James M., @1888, Sarah S., @1890. Interestingly, the Mary listed in 1871 census as 26, is only 33 in 1891, while Benedict ages from 24 to 44. Compared to 1901, this really causes change in Mary's age, and closer to marriage record listing. Adds Harry, Anne C. might be Anne Clara, Benedict G, could be Benedict Gustave, Ellen fits, James M. could be James Martin, and, perhaps, "Sarah S. " is the same listed as Celestia???
Notes: "of Concessions, Church Point." Married to Benedict by Rev. D. C. O'Connor, witness: M. Henderson.
