SMITH, Adelia Emma Handspiker - 73, Pugwash, formerly of Amherst, passed away Saturday evening January 1, 2000, in the East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Westport, she was a daughter of the late Leander and Violet (Hazelton) Handspiker. Sh e was a proofreader at Ronald's Federated in Montreal for 20 years before her retirement. She is survived by sons, Peter (Sharon), Amherst Head; David Emile (Sharon Carroll), Scarborough, Ont.; sisters, Betty (Mrs. Ronald Jackson), Shelburne; Jane t (Mrs. Karl Donovan), Ingonish; Vickie (Mrs. Fred Bates), Digby; grandchildren, Mark, Halifax; Vanessa (Mrs. Greg Jones), Amherst; Andrea, Amherst Head. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Mary Anna Louise; brothers, David and Jackie an d her companion, Ray Tremblay. Her remains have been cremated and a family memorial service will be held at Jayne's Funeral Home, Digby at a later date, with burial in the Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Canadian Diabe tes Association would be appreciated.
