I suspect he attended Univ. of Wash. and the 1932 thesis was for his master's or doctorate? The 1951 book appears to be a textbook for Ancient Civ.

OBVIOUSLY, dates from 1900 Census are incorrect, if the family arrived in 1892, with the above ages listed! Given SSDI info, I'd side with the manifest over the census!

If ABOVE are correct, Joseph b. 1856, Lucy b. 1858, Mary b. 1883 (that's okay), John b. 1885 (that's okay), William b. 1887 (acceptable), Anna b. 1888, and Eva b. 1890. These last two appear two-three years off. Not to mention the parents, Joseph and Lucy being 4-6 years OLDER on the manifest than in 1900 Census and BMD records! He was born in January 1862 at West Bromwich, Shropshire, England. He married Lucy Adelaide Fowler in 1880 at Bolton, Lancashire, England.
